Will Fruit Help Your Workout?

Wondering which fruit to eat pre-workout then check out the glycemic index. The index ranges from 0-100 (100 being pure glucose). Bananas are around the 50% point. As such for immediate energy a high GI is good.

  • It can burn the glucose immediately for energy.
  • If it is not needed for energy straight away, then it is converted into glycogen in the liver or muscles.
  • If the body has a lot of glucose, and all of the glycogen stores are full, the extra glucose is converted to fat by the liver and stored bodyfat. If needed, fatty acids can be burned as fuel (the fat cannot be converted back to glucose).
